Our History
The Institute was established in 1929 as the National Research Institute of Pedagogy
In 1993 it was reorganized into the National Institute of Education (NIE)
NIE was re-established in 2002 by the merger of four organizations:
• National Institute of Education
• Research and Methodological Center for Development of Textbooks and Means of Education
• Research and Methodological Center for Development of Educational Games and Toys
• National Pedagogical Library
The main aims are:
carrying out and coordination of fundamental and applied research in the area of education
development of the scientific and methodological provision for functioning and development of the national system of education
NIE Objectives
Organization, conducting and coordination of research on psycho-pedagogical and social-philosophical issues of education, development agenda for educational research, defining strategic priorities of the development of national system of education
Development of teaching-methodological complexes for pre-school, secondary, special, and out-of-school education; carrying out scientific expertise and approbation of teaching-methodological and normative provision of educational process
Development of theoretical, organizational and methodological provision for quality of education monitoring
Post-graduate training of educational researchers and specialist of high level of qualification
Our Staff and Students
332 researchers, curriculum and methodology development specialists and other staff are permanent employees at the NIE
In addition, there are over 60 part-time and project researchers in fixed-term positions
Research Center
Main objective is organization and conducting fundamental theoretical and practice oriented research on psycho-pedagogical and social-philosophical issues of education
Quality of Education Monitoring Department
Main objective is the development of theoretical, organizational and methodological basis for monitoring of quality of education
Methodological Center
Main objective is the development of national educational standards, curriculum, programs, textbooks and teaching guides for pre- school, secondary and special education
Education Center
Main objective is post-graduate full and part-time training of educational researchers and specialists of high level of qualification in 4 areas of pedagogical science and 8 specializations
International Cooperation Department
NIE actively collaborates with international organizations involved in educational issues, with research and academic centers and universities in the CIS countries, Scandinavia, and the USA
NIE serves as a Coordinator and Focal Point of the International Bureau of Education UNESCO network of educational researchers and curriculum specialist in the CIS region
Publishing Center
Main objective is publication of textbooks and teaching guides, education normative and legal document
Publishing Center also includes editorial boards of the NIE journal “Educational News” and monthly edition of “Normative Documents of Belarus Ministry of Education”
National Pedagogical Library
National Pedagogical Library has the richest collection in Belarus of printed and electronic theoretical, methodological and practical materials on educational issues
The Library resources are actively explored not only by the NIE staff and students but by educational researchers, specialists and educators from all over Belarus
